How To Guides

umbrella

  • “Portsmouth City Council announced today that by the end of 2008, the speed limit would be reduced from 50kph to 30kph. ”

However Alex Bentley, the city council’s executive member for environment and transport, contradicts himself when he says:
“What we want to do is target the small number of drivers who drive at inappropriate speeds without regard for road safety or respect for anyone else.” If it were a small number, than you wouldn’t need to lower the speed limit for everyone. The truth is that most people, cacooned in their cars, are little aware of the threat they pose in residential areas.

3 Responses to Elsewhere … Urban speed limit

The Daily Mail actually reported that the speed limit would be reduced from 30mph to 20mph. Speed limits in the UK are only legally measured in miles per hour, so a business based in London I am rather surprised that you have decided to report these figures in kilometres per hour (and not very precisely converted at that).

    For everyone’s information, 20mph and 30mph convert respectively to 32kph and 48kph, whereas 30kph and 50kph convert respectively to 18.6mph and 31mph.

  1. I don’t really think we needed the pedantry, they weren’t that far out and besides, I think we all got the point of the article.

  2. I do understand that people ARE concerned about what we call the beer tokens/units of length, I’ve just never understood why
