The Department for Transport has issued the report for 2005 road casualties.

It is heartening to see that both pedestrian and cyclist fatalities are now much lower than the 94-98 average, 33% and 20% respectively. In 2005 cyclist fatalities increased (although children fatalities decreased), by 14. The increase can be accounted for the increase of fatalities in London, which of course has seen a dramatic increase of people cycling. It is nevertheless hoped that 2005 is an ‘outlier’ and future years will show lower numbers.
