FloatOn Sunday, London will host the annual Saint Patrick’s Parade. Many floats will be in Dublin on Saturday (Saint Patrick’s Day) and be transported to London in time for a 12:00 start. They probably did not tell Ken that to be green does not mean to be pro-Irish but it means to limit unnecessary journeys.

One of the most spectacular participants will be a series of floats mounted on bicycles. The drawing shows one. We have been told that they will ship more rigs than bodies, so if you fancy wearing a costume (nuns, knights, etc) and join the procession, give Tim Timms a call at 077 3468 3175.

This is the message from Tim:

On Sunday my good friend Mark Hill will be arriving with a carnival procession. Last year Mark won first prize for his bicycle powered carnival procession in the Dublin St Patrick’s Day Parade. Today he is participating in Dublin again with a new massive parade involving 100 people in wonderful costume and with numerous bicycle powered unicorns and phoenixes, galleons etc. It’s designed to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the flight of the native earls from Ireland. Anyway its a celebration of fun, colour and bicycles.
Tomorrow he arrives courtesy of Ken Livingston to bring this carnival procession to London’s Patricks Day Parade
He could only bring half the people needed, mostly the dancers, and needs cyclists starting at 10am on Park Lane
otherwise some of the beautiful works will have to stay on the Containers and not parade..
You will be guaranteed a good craic, and be well looked after, joining in with afterparty too if you like.

These are Mark’s words:
“The set up is half way up park lane where our green 40 ft trailer will be parked up by 10 am, and we will head off at noon ( which doesn’t give us much time ) down pall mall, picadilly, regent street, trafalgar square and finish up in whitehall where the lorry will be waiting for us.”
“we have most of our dancers coming but would be short of several bike riders flag wavers horse puppets monks and nuns on drums. We have all the costumes and the start is Park lane at 10 am for a 12 o’clock parade which is really tight”
” just yourself will do of course but I’m sure you have a pal or two that would enjoy the craic the stuff if really lovely, top class and it’d be a shame to leave too much of it in the lorry when it’d look so fine on london’s fancy roads. looking forward to seeing you on the street anyway, so yes shout away, I’m sure you know some keen cyclists”

Arrive early enough please,
give me a call if you want to confirm, or ask any questions..
I will be there, so see you if you are coming.
