I went to the Azor factory yesterday and had a look around. I’m impressed. They’re designed for a 20 year life, stored outdoors, and the attention paid to this is quite remarkable. Fragile looking components (e.g. lights) are tested by
throwing them at a brick wall to see if they break. They order the products that reps bring in where they can’t break the samples ! They then leave them in a vat of hot salty water for several months to see if things corrode. While I was there a few different samples of paint finish were also in this, and failing to rust.I was very impressed with the overall setup. I’ve met Jan Rijkeboer (the owner) a few times before, but not seen so much of the factory and what they do before now.
P.S. The company has a social conscience and employs a blind wheel-builder (who seems to do a very
good job) and people with learning difficulties to do some of the other work too – such as drilling the spoke holes in hubs to accommodate those enormous spokes !I took a video which you might enjoy

The Dutch are truly lucky to have streets where it is safe to cycle. Here in the UK cycling in a city is absolutely no pleasure at all and having a kid sitting on your handlebars would be considered little short of child abuse
