Sapristi! C'est très Belle-Époque, la casquette. All he needs is a cyclist's patent anti-dog revolver in the pocket of his Tintin plus-fours and he's away down the poplar-lined Route Nationale.

Seriously. I think it would be a good idea for cyclists to eschew such items of dress as this and the cape-thing. Quite apart from the price tag, there's already enough of a public perception that anyone who rides a bike is a honking poser without adding fuel to it. Boris Johnson's shower-of-shite tenue in the blog a few weeks back was painful to look at, but it was at least an honest attempt at practical all-weather clothing for someone getting from A to B.

By the way: one good cycling-dress idea seen recently, for those city cyclists who feel safer wearing a helmet – which I certainly would in London – but resent looking a complete fool. A Danish company called Yakkay sells an EU-approved helmet which can be fitted with a variety of cloth covers in subdued shades which make it look like it isn't really a helmet (…if you screw your eyes up hard). They're pricey; but if the choice is between looking a dork and ending up a gork then they might represent a good compromise.

  1. CORRECTION: I've just had a look at some photos of French cyclists circa 1900 and the leg-wear wasn't plus-fours (which I think came in during the 1920s) but what would now be called knickerbockers: breeches which fastened just below the knee. Also the cap was worn with the peak unbuttoned.

…But either way you'd look pretty silly dressing like that nowadays, so best not to.

  4. There are still parts of the world in which wearing a helmet is not obligatory for cyclists – like, in Russia – so I do like the idea of getting outfitted like a French cyclist circa 1900 and go cycling :)

  5. Development of digital technologies occurs prompt rates. Does not lag behind progress and digital TV. Speaking about digital TV, we first of all mean satellite TV. The digital satellite TV becomes more and more accessible to simple users. The market paid satellite tv also is not necessary on a place. The new digital standard of TV of high clearness HDTV actively develops and takes root. The satellite TV becomes more and more directed on the spectator. Besides digital quality of the image, advantage of satellite systems also is also the extensive cover zone of the companion.

  6. That's a funky hat dude…. lol

  7. To be honest, but I am not a stylist, by looking at the picture I did not guess he was supposed to be looking like a cyclist. This is certainly a bit unusual, but he could go out party no problemo. Parbleu.

  8. this is a french hat isn't it, I have seen it in most of french cinema, and even it is quiet in fashion for past some time.

  9. I really like the Tweed cap, these are those used in the 70s and 80s where we see those in the British movies.. I have seen some people wearing these recently on the roads and I think could be next in thing.

  10. The cap looks good, have not seen this around in the local stores though, will look around on the internet…

  11. No it cannot be termed as French Hat, but yes it is quite common in the French people I would say.. I know some French in my neighbor hood and have seen them with it. Want to have one for myself too.

  12. Hey I like that cap, thanks for sharing, I am going to get one for myself.

  13. My friend has this and he always mentions it as the French cap, I thought it was the French cap. may be I was wrong.

  14. I recently bought one of these in brown and paid 80bucks I guess you have it for cheap..
