People power is a remarkable thing and India, a country that bicycles at the heart of daily life, has a lot to teach us about its uses.

When it comes to the issue of making our cities safer to cycle in its understandable that the scale of the problem is so great that individual action often seems inadequate. Yet – to use an example close to my heart (or my head) – how many single hairs does it take to be considered bald? In other word – everyone counts.

A story of Streetsblog NYC was brought to my attention today. Many people in India are making those individual efforts needed to instigate a change in the nation’s most populous city, Mumbai. People have organized a Car-Free Day for February 21st. It’s the first such effort in Mumbai, which suffers from some of the world’s most chronically congested traffic conditions.
