If one takes the moral high ground (“Red lights are not for me”), one must treat pedestrians with the utmost respect. Best is to follow the Fabergé Rule

I do my best to respect both the current law and pedestrians, but neither of them make it easy for me. The former stymies me by asking me to respect red lights that (because of faulty design or installation) will never change to green for me; the latter by crossing the road when I’m too close to stop for them but I can’t tell whether they’re trying to cross in front of me or behind.
Once a pedestrian tripped over my rear wheel as she tried to cross the road behind me, because she wasn’t expecting me to stop at a give way line. I do always try to give pedestrians the space they need – I know that when I’m a pedestrian I like road users to do the same for me. I’d find it a lot easier if it weren’t for the few pedestrians who don’t give me the space they need.
“Stop for ped, not at red”? That is absolutely the right attitude, but it needs a better slogan than that. Something that could be printed on t-shirts and wouldn’t make people wince?
