We are tired of reporting news of shoddy facilities, underinvestment and ugly yellow vests. From now on we will be focusing on the good news, on the thousand little positive steps of the London Velorution.

And here is the first, from the BBC:

Met Police team to tackle bike thefts in London

A new police team specifically intended to target the problem of bike theft in London has been launched.

The 30-strong task force will patrol by pedal power, investigating incidents of stolen or vandalised bikes.

It will also mark bikes with peoples’ home address and teach cyclists how to lock their bike securely.

Kulveer Ranger, the Mayor of London’s transport advisor, said greater cycle security was the prerequisite to London’s “cycle revolution”.

The team intend to:
Disrupt the sale of second-hand bikes
Target bike theft with covert operations
Introduce CCTV at locations where bikes are parked

Mr Ranger said: “We want this new cycle squad to reassure everyone who cycles in the capital of our focus on making London as safe and secure as possible, and the best big cycling city in the world.”

Commander Mark Gore said: “With the introduction of our dedicated force we will robustly tackle cycle theft and improve cycle security across the capital.”

This is exceptionally good news: a dedicated force will easily disrupt this up-to-now-unpoliced crime; and it will become apparent that the Return on Investment (ROI) is very high: more people will be willing to invest in good quality bikes, and many youths will understand that ‘crime does not pay’.

    Oh for goodness sake!

  1. [...] And here is the first, from the BBC… (velorution) [...]

  2. Second video is pretty useful, but the first one just plain bonkers… She should be single handedly blamed for why people not cycling in this country.
