This bicycle ride thing is rather foreign in Copenhagen. During the activism of the 1970’s and 1980’s there were massive rides by citizens demanding safe infrastructure but it’s been awhile.
I was looking forward to seeing how Copenhageners reacted to a large, slow-moving group of people on bicycles blocking the early evening traffic.
There were people who stopped to look at the spectacle, but most of them were on foot or leaning out of windows. They were smiling, as a rule.

Monocle reports on an exciting project that will improve the quality of cycling in Tokyo:
Tokyo’s two-wheeled revolution is not slowing down: on Monday evening, around 60 bicycle lovers gathered in a bright white Aoyama showroom to launch a new initiative that aims to make cycling as forward-thinking as it is fashionable.
The meeting was organised by X2 Tokyo, an urban collective of 10 influential bicycle aficionados – among them designers, art directors, moviemakers and editors – sponsored by tyre company Bridgestone.

A top official at TfL, in charge of the launch of the London Hire Bikes, passed by the shop and gave us an update:
The launch is scheduled for 30th July; all 6000 bicycles will be placed in situ the night before.
No brand name has been developed for it. Barclays Bank are sponsoring the project, paying £25million for the privilege of having their name on all the bikes. A cynic may infer that Barclays vetoed clever names for the project, so that people will call them [...]
