Here is a brilliant service: Bikeshd lists photographs of all the bicycles offered on sale at Ebay and GumTree. We have just found one of our rental bikes, stolen from inside our shop a few days ago. Ebay has been notified. Meanwhile, LCC and CTC officers have met Gumtree’s Head of Customer Service, Trust and Security to discuss measures to reduce the incidence of stolen bike sales on the online classified site.

Cyclehoops has developed this solid mobile cycle parking unit, shown here at the recent Velocity Global in Copenhagen. It is similar to the experimental tricycle parking units, piloted at the Danish capital. Our hope is that once the novelty of the message (one car = 8 bikes) wears out, we could see more agreeable icons forming the structure of these parking units. Image By Barcelona Cycle Chic

Mikael Colville: This bicycle ride thing is rather foreign in Copenhagen. During the activism of the 1970’s and 1980’s there were massive rides by citizens demanding safe infrastructure but it’s been awhile. I was looking forward to seeing how Copenhageners reacted to a large, slow-moving group of people on bicycles blocking the early evening traffic. There were people who stopped to look at the spectacle, but most of them were on foot or leaning out of windows. They were smiling, as a rule. If you looked at the [...]

Monocle reports on an exciting project that will improve the quality of cycling in Tokyo: Tokyo’s two-wheeled revolution is not slowing down: on Monday evening, around 60 bicycle lovers gathered in a bright white Aoyama showroom to launch a new initiative that aims to make cycling as forward-thinking as it is fashionable. The meeting was organised by X2 Tokyo, an urban collective of 10 influential bicycle aficionados – among them designers, art directors, moviemakers and editors – sponsored by tyre company Bridgestone. The group announced plans to commission [...]

A top official at TfL, in charge of the launch of the London Hire Bikes, passed by the shop and gave us an update: The launch is scheduled for 30th July; all 6000 bicycles will be placed in situ the night before. No brand name has been developed for it. Barclays Bank are sponsoring the project, paying £25million for the privilege of having their name on all the bikes. A cynic may infer that Barclays vetoed clever names for the project, so that people will call them [...]

Two pieces of good news: Brand new double-decker racks more than double the capacity of secure parking at Waterloo The racks are positioned conveniently outside the entrance in the centre of the main concourse (next to Costa Coffee ), providing quick and easy access between the station and the existing cycle path. We are tired of reporting news of shoddy facilities, underinvestment and ugly yellow vests. From now on we will be focusing on the good news, on the thousand little positive steps of the London Velorution. And here is the first, from the BBC: Met Police team to tackle bike thefts in London A new police team specifically intended to target the problem of bike theft in London has been launched. The 30-strong task force will patrol by pedal power, investigating incidents of stolen or vandalised bikes. It will [...]
