The Christiania Extended Box Bike is for the family with four or more children, the small business owner, or the handyman looking for and enviromentally-friendly was to move around.

This Christiania Extended High Box is available in steel only.

Here is a quick guide for choosing the options:

» Box shape and colour – The standard box has a lower (35cm) front, compared to the back (50cm). It can be fitted with one bench for two children. If you are planning to transport three or four children, you need the straight version, so that two benches can be fitted. The standard model has a black frame and the box is in natural marine plywood. You can select different colours for the box: Light Blue Creamy White Black Apple Green and New Yellow.

» Gears – If you live in a flat area, the three speed hub will be fine. If you live in a more hilly area, you will appreciate the wider range of the 7 or the 8 speed gearing options.

» Electric assist – A great help for those living in hilly areas, or for those who just need some additional assistance during all or part of their ride. It can be fully charged overnight, plugged into any outlet (there is a LED diode on the charging unit that starts red and goes green when fully charged), and is easy to take out and put back in to its docking space on the Christiania. The electric assist needs to be turned on at the battery area before being available for use. It can then be easily put into gear when necessary by a simple twist of the throttle, which is located on the left hand side by the front brake to offer that additional assistance while pedaling.

*Please note all models with electric assist come with an 8 speed derailleur as standard.

» Hood – The new Bugatti hood , although more expensive, allows more light inside and is more aerodynamic. If you select the straight box, the choice is restricted to the Prairie hood .

» Seats – There is a soft seat and a hard bench ; the latter also acts as a lockable box to keep valuable objects. You can also fit additional side seats , which can be folded when not in use.

Soft seat and hard bench come with a lap belt for two children;  for children up to 2 years of age, additional Y-seat belt can be added.

Here you can find pictures of all the additional accessories listed above:
Full trike cover
Cape
Child bench pillow
Mattress / folding pillow for the child bench

Recently a consumers affair programme on Danish TV put the Christiania tricycle, the Nihola tricycle and the new Trio tricycle to the test. You can see the programme here. The three tests (by mothers and kids, by a mechanic and by professional cyclist) yielded a clear winner: the Christiania was favoured for its roominess, its manoevrability, its simple and solid construction and reliability. Interestingly, children seem to prefer the somewhat more spartan interior of the Christiania cargo box to the more curvy compartments of the [...]
Christiania in front of Tivoli. One of the great idiocy of human kind is to look at a trend and expect it to continue for ever. House prices will keep on rising, food will get cheaper, more Londoners will cycle, etc. Yes momentum has its inner logic, but in a world of friction, all trends need fuel and if that fails, the trend grinds to a halt and may even reverse. The fuel required for more Londoners to ride is better facilities that convince bus [...]
